Their story
Frank Foster was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. He served in the US Army from 1951-1953 and upon his return became a member of Count Basie's orchestra. He was a member of Elvin Jones' band from 1970–1972 and at various times thereafter, and the Mel Lewis and Thad Jones big band from 1972–1975. He also released a number of albums under his own name. In 2002, he received the NEA Jazz Masters Award. He is the winner of two Grammy Awards. He died of kidney failure at the age of 82.
