Johann Hieronymus Schröter

Johann Hieronymus Schroeter was a leading German astronomer and administrator. He carried out the most precise observations of the planets, made very detailed maps of the moon and built large reflecting telescopes. The Lilienthal observatory he built was equipped with the largest telescopes in Europe and was the place where Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel's work in astronomy began.
