Hermann Sökeland was a Berlin manufacturer and secretary of the museum association, which supported the museum for German folk costumes and domestic products and, from 1904, the collection for German folklore in the prehistoric department of the museum for ethnology. In 1894, after director Ulrich Jahns left, Sökeland took over the management of the museum until it was accepted into the Association of Royal Museums and the associated appointment of Karl Brunner.
