Elvira Sergeyevna Shatayeva is a Russian mountaineer and professional athlete, and the leader of the failed climb of Lenin Peak in the Pamirs on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border in August 1974. At the time of her death in 1974, she was one of the Soviet Union's most famous mountaineers.
