Kliment von Ohrid war ein mittelalterlicher bulgarischer Heiliger, Gelehrter und Bischof, der maßgeblich zur Förderung der slawischen Schriftkultur und des orthodoxen Christentums unter den Südslawen beitrug. Als engen Jünger der Heiligen Kyrill und Method nahm er an ihrer Mission in Mähren teil, bevor er vor Verfolgungen in das Erste Bulgarische Reich floh, wo Knjas Boris I. Michail die Anhänger der slawischen Apostel willkommen hieß, um der byzantinischen kulturellen Vorherrschaft entgegenzuwirken.
