Their story
Shi Jingkong, AM (March 13, 1927 - July 26, 2022), a Taiwanese Buddhist monk, whose common name is Xu Yehong, was born in Tangchi Town, Lujiang County, Anqing Road, Anhui Province, the Republic of China. In 1959, he became a monk at the Huguo Zen Temple in Linji, Taipei City. His Buddhist name is Juejing and his courtesy name is Jingkong. He once studied philosophy and Buddhism with Fang Dongmei, the 7th Zhangjia Hutuktu, Buddhist layman Li Bingnan, etc. He specializes in promoting Pure Land Buddhism. He was invited by UNESCO to help promote religious unity. In 2005, he was awarded Australia's highest honor, Knighthood. Honorary professor at Griffith University and the University of Queensland in Australia; visiting professor at Renmin University of China; honorary doctorate from Griffith University and the University of Southern Queensland; honorary doctorate from the Shari Siddha Adullah Islamic University in Indonesia; honorary citizen of Texas in the United States, honorary citizen of Dallas, honorary citizen of Toowoomba in Queensland, Australia, outstanding citizen of Tainan City, the highest honor of the Indonesian Ministry of Religion; president of the Pure Buddhism College in Australia, and chairman of the board of directors of the Hong Kong Buddha Education Association.
