Anwar al-Attar

Anwar Saeed Anis Al-Attar is a Syrian poet from the twentieth century. He was born in Damascus to a Baalbek family and studied in its schools, then in Maktab Anbar School, the largest school in Damascus at the time. He continued his studies in the Faculty of Arts at the Syrian University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree. He practiced teaching in schools in Damascus, then in Baghdad, and also in Saudi Arabia. He worked as an Arabic language inspector in the Ministry of Education in Syria. He loved isolation and preferred staying away from politics, so he approached the romantics in his psychology and poetry. His poetry was characterized by describing flowers and gardens, and he was fond of them. He died in Damascus and was buried in Al-Dahdah cemetery. He has several collections of poetry, books, and literary studies.
